"... But what I really want to do is direct."By Luke at 02/04/2008 - 18:21
Not only do I get to work on an upcoming amateur film project, I just got asked to direct it. At least there was one highlight to my Sunday (insert moping about anticlimactic football outcomes here). The movie is an adaptation of Pickman's Model - which happens to be my favorite Lovecraft story. The script is currently in the works, a little location scouting has been done and we'll begin storyboards once it has been settled. While a bit daunting, I'm certainly looking forward to it. While it sounds like a lot of fun and a chance to work on something a bit outside of my usual plans and schemes, I'm actually somewhat petrified of actually getting all of the details in order. It's really easy to ramble on and on about broad, sweeping notions but actually piecing it all together is going to be more than a bit of a challenge. I've got quite a few scenes already firmly in mind and hopefully we'll be able to work everything into a cohesive whole. It'll be interesting. Usually, on pretty much any project requiring a lot of collaboration, I'm prone to handing over the reins and giving up creative control. I am always happy to help out but I really think that there needs to be an authoritative voice with final say and I typically try to facilitate that. I like to think that I'm pretty good at dealing with a lack of ownership over my work - in fact, it's something of a defense mechanism developed from my day job. Now, rather than being productive, that very same habit may wind up being the real challenge. More to follow. I'll post updates as they become available. |
Director!
Sweet. As daunting as it may be, at least you have a better chance at being on the right side of the camera.
