Mmmm... Football.By Luke at 05/07/2008 - 21:02
Goal Line Blitz is all-consuming... 5 minutes at a time. As a moderate Football fan and stat-junkie who loves his strategy games, I was doomed from the start. The game is entirely browser-based and features no actual game day play. It's all about managing your players and just waiting to see how the results come out. The upside is that it only occupies a few minutes of your time to do all this, so it's a wonderful game to play "on the side." The downside is that it just isn't for everyone. You've got a ton of stats to take into account and figure out how to develop your player and no one (aside from the creators) really knows for sure exactly how it all works out. For some, that's frustration. For me, that's half the fun. Sign up, make players, sign contracts, raise your player's stats through training and experience, then talk smack until game day rolls around and see how you fared. I'm enormously pleased at how it exactly fits a niche for me in which I can spend 5 or 10 minutes at a time, a couple times per day and wind up with a sense of continuity across the season. I've got a great WR (with great stats, but he never seems to get enough balls thrown his way between quirks of the game and the rest of the excellent receiving squad on his team) and the big boot of McPuntsalot, in addition to an offensive lineman training for next year. Good times, if you happen into the right team. |
